Nestled in the Farmington River Valley, Canton is a delightful country town. The center of town has cultural points of interest like specialty antiques shops and an art gallery in addition to the regular stores.
The Art Guild exhibits the work of Canton's many local resident artists. At the southwestern tip of Canton, is a charming historical village called Collinsville, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is located in a wooded setting overlooking the Farmington River with spectacular examples of early Victorian architecture.
Four schools make up the school system in Canton: kindergarten-third grade, fourth-sixth grade, a middle school and a high school.
The Roaring Brook Nature Center provides folk music programs, astronomy, and nature walks among other outdoor recreation facilities. Horseback riding, hiking, swimming, tennis, team sports, skating and cross-country skiing are offered at the Mills Pond Recreation Area. The multi-use Farmington River Trail, which was built on an old railroad bed, winds through town and into surrounding towns.
